What happens at Meeting for Worship?

The Santa Barbara Friends Meeting is an unprogrammed Quaker Meeting. Friends sit mostly in silence, although anyone who is moved to speak may do so. There is also an opportunity to share your name, add any after thoughts and make announcements after the service. Each week we close Meeting with light refreshments and there is time for informal fellowship. Learn more about Quaker Worship

Are children welcome?

As a visitor to an unprogrammed, or silent, Meeting you may be concerned about whether your children are being quiet enough.  Please don’t be. The sounds of small children and babies are welcomed, as is breast feeding. Most children have a tough time sitting silently for a full hour, so feel free to bring paper and crayons, or a book to read for older children. Your children are also very welcome to attend our supervised First Day School, which is just alongside the Meeting Room. All the children from First Day School come and sit with Meeting for the final ten minutes.

Meeting House is accessible
to those with disabilities.
Visitors are always welcome.
